Do you speak and read the Dutch dialect Fries ? If not, then the website of the Dutch broadcaster Omroep Friesland (Fryslân Omrop) won’t mean much to you at the moment. But soon, Google Translate will include Fries as one of its translation languages. In anticipation of a wider audience, the broadcaster has recently selected MediaFiler to store not only their images but those submitted by their audience.
Digital Asset Management for Omroep Friesland
The broadcaster uses MediaFiler Digital Asset Management software to centrally store and manage images, branding and other digital assets from the organization. All assets in the image library are categorized in the Fries dialect by subject and categories from ‘abstrakt & konsept’ to ‘iten & drinken’.
E-mail direct to the image library
This latest client asked MediaFiler to develop a new feature. E-mail content directly into the media library. Viewers and listeners can e-mail their photos to a special Omroep Friesland e-mail address linked to their Media Library. Instantly photos are automatically uploaded directly into the library. The subject line of the e-mail is saved as the photo title and any text in the e-mail is saved in the description (caption) field. Naturally there are safeguards in place to scan the submissions first.
The broadcaster can quickly view the pictures and select which photos they want to use and forward them to the relevant archive. They can also edit the metadata – descriptions – and place the photos into the correct category. This helps the broadcaster engage with their target audience. The editors easily collect unique footage and for their viewers it is always nice to see their own pictures on TV or online.
